Many anime are funny, but some characters are funnier than others. Some of them are just minor characters who bring some humor, while others are cheerful main characters.
This decade saw the release of many popular anime: Attack on Titan, Yuri on Ice, Little Witch Academia, Devilman Crybaby, Demon Slayer and many others. Many of them had great comedic moments, but the really funny characters came from comedy anime. Here are the ten funniest anime characters of the past decade!
Motoko Kusanagi
Who is she? Motoko Kusanagi, aka Maj (short for Major), is the head of the Ninth Section, a special unit of the Japanese police to combat cyberterrorists (a good half of whom eventually become either her friends or part of her consciousness).
Her perfect body is the development of the latest military technologies (she, as usual, will not pay off the mortgage for it until the end of her days). At the same time, she wears it with the carelessness of a secular fashion trendsetter. Motoko embodies the ideal image of a strong woman - and at the same time combines overt sexuality with the punchy equanimity of a walking tank. Abilities: A perfect machine for solving the most complex tactical problems. Capable of beating up anything that moves and hacking anything that picks up without leaving stealth mode.
Details: Motoko has appeared on screen five times already, including in a live-action Hollywood film where she was played by Scarlett Johansson, despite the fact that purists were against it. However, it is better to start getting acquainted with the Major with the classic cyberpunk of Mamoru Oshii. Here the girl is literally working hard.
Watch: Ghost in the Shell (1995), Ghost in the Shell: Innocence (2004), Ghost in the Shell: Loner Syndrome (2002–2005 ), Ghost in the Shell: At the Beginning (2013–2015 )
Itachi Uchiha
Itachi Uchiha is an example of the fact that you don't have to be the main character to attract the attention of absolutely all Naruto fans. At first, the audience perceived him as an anti-hero, condemned him, condemned him in the same way as the inhabitants of Konoha. It was only during the events of the final arcs of Hurricane Chronicles that the truth about this character was revealed. Having destroyed his entire clan, slaughtering his father and mother, Itachi saved the legacy of the Uchiha and his brother Sasuke. He agreed to spend his whole life in isolation, become the main enemy of the village, join a terrorist structure, even lose his life just to protect what was left of his family. If this cannot be called loyalty to duty, then it is difficult to imagine what can be. The modern top of the most popular anime characters is definitely headed by Itachi Uchiha.
Victoria Seras
Who is she? London policewoman. It was initiated by the ancient bloodsucker Alucard (read: Dracula in reverse) after the massacre in the village of Chedars. Later she became an operative of the Hellsing organization - the Royal Order of Protestant Knights, which protects Britain from all undead, even though there is no end to them on the island.
Abilities: In addition to her irresistible appearance, the petite girl is armed with a huge 30-mm Harkonnen rifle, with which she can tear ghouls and other evil spirits to pieces.
Details: Of the two film adaptations of the Hellsing manga, we still prefer the first. While the anime series may not be as faithful to the original as the OVA Ultimate, the on-screen chemistry between Victoria and Alucard deserves five stars.
Watch: “Hellsing” (2001 – 2002), “Hellsing Ultimate” (2006 – 2012)
Misa Amane
Who is she? Model, actress, TV presenter, faithful assistant to the main character Light Yagami, mistress of life and death. The last skill came to her from a tame shinigami named Rem and the notorious Death Note. Her provocative beauty and image as a rock diva ensured her wild popularity among the male population of Japan (both in anime and in real life). Bright, sexy, cheerful, impulsive - she is nevertheless devoted to her beloved guy, supports him in everything and even shares his hobbies.
Abilities: In addition to the ability she shares with Light to kill everyone she knows by sight, Misa also has “Shinigami eyes.” This allows her to see the name and date of death of any person. But the price for such a great gift is high - half of a measured life. However, for the sake of her beloved, the girl is ready to pay it without hesitation.
Details: At the same time, Light himself treats the girl coldly, if not cruelly. He uses his favorite at every opportunity, but what else can you expect from such a prudent schemer? However, Misa herself is ready to endure this until Light cheats on her with other women - whom, by her own admission, she will kill mercilessly. True, in the live-action, extremely westernized film, this heroine has a slightly different image and a different name - Mia Sutton.
Watch: Death Note (2006-2007)
From Suo Pavlichenko to Ivan Whiskey
The creators of Japanese anime have a lot of imagination, and they generally approach their characters with a great deal of imagination. In the populous world of anime, there was a place for pioneer heroes, Grigory Rasputin, brilliant figure skaters, an adept of alchemy, and even the black Semyon Brezhnev with a criminal past. All these people have one thing in common - they are of Russian origin.
Russian heroes in anime
Kagero
Who is she? A female ninja from the Koga clan, who meets on the way of the wandering samurai Jubei Kibagami, based on the legendary Yagyu Jubei Mitsuyoshi, a master of kenjutsu (the art of swordsmanship) and ninjutsu (the art of stealth) of the era of the Tokugawa shogunate. Together they face off against the "Eight Demons of Kimon".
Abilities: When one of these demons attempts to rape Kagero, her body is revealed to be laced with a deadly poison. So the spawn of darkness will bitterly regret his plans.
Details: Despite the fact that Kagero simply radiates danger, she has a trembling and tender heart, simply due to the cruelty of those times (people were pierced through then) it was hardened in countless battles. This heroine also appears in the historical anime “Basilisk”.
Watch: Ninja Scroll (1993), Basilisk (2005)
Vash Hurricane
Protagonist of the anime "Trigan". Known for his cameo, as well as the popularity of the project. At the Anime Grand Prix 1998 he took second place among male characters. Actually an alien who has been traveling the Earth for 150 years. Despite this, he has a very light and cheerful character. He prefers yellow glasses and a red cloak, and defends himself with a huge revolver. Sometimes he loses his memory, after which he tries to piece his personality together. Teaches people a peaceful life and promotes technological progress.
If Kamina teaches the viewer courage, then Hurricane is a storehouse of energy. He is always on the go, does not give in to obstacles and is constantly moving forward. This is how Vash should be remembered. However, he also has his sad secrets. The top popular anime characters would hardly be complete without this joker. And the fact that his power can wipe out a city from the face of the planet should not worry anyone.
Revy
Who is she? American-born Chinese woman with a tattoo on her right shoulder. Almost always dressed in short shorts and jungle boots. Revy (short for Rebbeka) lost her parents at an early age, was imprisoned where she was abused, and fled the United States to Roanapur, a fictional city in Thailand, where she became a militant for Laguna, a company that transports illegal goods in the seas of Southeast Asia.
Abilities: For her ability to shoot in Macedonian style (that is, with two hands), she received the nickname Two-Armed. Her weapons of choice are two modified Beretta 92 pistols, which she calls Sword Cutlass after the pirate's cutlass. Also excellent with any type of firearm: submachine guns, assault and sniper rifles, grenade launchers.
Details: Doesn't believe in God, drinks a lot, smokes, and indulges in all sorts of bad things with sophisticated cynicism. Simply put, she behaves like a real pirate.
Watch: “Pirates of the Black Lagoon” (2006-2013)
Michiko Malandro
Who is she? A girl in whom Japanese kawaiiness is multiplied by Brazilian sexuality. At the very beginning of the series, he escapes from prison, robs a bank, and then goes with an orphaned Cinderella named Hana "Hattin" Morenos in search of her father, whom Michiko once knew. Their path lies through dangerous and depraved favelas, noisy markets and the sultry South American desert, under the scorching sun of which a friendship is born between a woman and a girl, to whom the world has turned out to be equally cruel.
Abilities: Handles a machine gun skillfully.
Details: Michiko is not bad, she’s just drawn that way – wild and with an internal breakdown. So, when you meet, do not call her baby under any circumstances.
Watch: “Michiko and Hattin” (2008 – 2009)
Edward Elric
Alchemist, "short" and resilient traveler, Edward Elric appears in a much darker light, once you dig deeper. This character gave everything just to save his brother. An unsuccessful experiment to save his mother resulted in the loss of an arm and leg, which the alchemist replaced with prosthetics. His younger brother Alfonso is completely locked in armor, for which Edward never ceases to blame himself. He paid too dearly for his careless desire to regain his loved one, and now he is looking for a way to make his family happy.
Faye Valentine
Who is she? The heroine of a space western, whose name is the same as one famous porn model. Crew member of the Bebop, a bounty hunter ship similar to the Firefly.
Abilities: Fay is an avid gambler (she officially suffers from gambling addiction), a selfish, arrogant and vile devil. He takes advantage of his attractiveness and does not trust anyone.
Details: The reasons for such a disgusting character must be sought in the past: Valentine really was not very happy. After a catastrophe on Earth, she was frozen in suspended animation, many years later revived, and then framed by scammers for a large sum. Over time, however, Fay became attached to the crew of the Bebop and admitted that this place was her only home.
Watch: Cowboy Bebop (1998)–1999)
Spike Spiegel
Space cowboy, no joke. If you ask a child from the 90s who grew up watching Cowboy Bebop, who is the most popular anime character, the answer will be more than obvious. When everyone was trying to repeat the success, this series went its own way. Lively, charismatic characters, interesting setting, fresh and still original jokes. The audience followed with interest the constant troubles that the main characters get into. “Cowboy Bepop” and its protagonist Spike Spiegel were literally destined for popularity.
However, behind Spiegel’s feigned amusement there is something else hidden, noticeable only to a very attentive viewer. Bravery, activity? What now? Spike teaches the young admirer loyalty to duty and his principles. And only when alone with himself, this hero, smoking another cigarette, allows the clouds of smoke to carry him away to his beloved. According to IGN, Spike is the fourth most popular male anime character of all time.
Riel Mayer
Who is she? A princess and a cop, who combines the profession of an inspector of the investigation bureau with the status of the regent's daughter in an ideal domed city in the middle of a lifeless desert. Although the myth of her lifelessness will have to be dispelled by Riel Mayer after escaping from her golden cage. True, Riel herself looks less like a songbird than her visual prototype, Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee. The main character of “Ergo Proxy” is rude, arrogant, arrogant, and also a complete egocentric. She doesn’t care about not only local auto-rave androids, but also living people, regardless of their status. She is driven by fanatical curiosity - and the desire to do everything in defiance.
Abilities: Riel is agile and dexterous, perfectly oriented in difficult situations. She is helped in this by a compact shotgun and loyal friends with whom she can always urge her on. Well, her bad character (just like Princess Bean from the animated series “Disappointment”) makes some people’s heads literally explode.
Details: Like Ergo Proxy itself, Riel is prickly, complex and unyielding. Sometimes it seems that in their case a huge iceberg is hidden from view, sometimes it seems that it is just a soap bubble. But the main advantage of anime and girls is that they do not strive to please anyone. This can either repel you or make you fall in love with you once and for all.
Watch: Ergo Proxy (2006)
Rei Ayanami
A goddess for many Evangelion fans. The First Child, who managed to pilot the Eva and resist the invasion. The character's popularity lies in her fatalistic stoicism. Rey wants to be held to her chest and protected. Even before the character of Ikari Shinji was created, the character of Rei appeared in bandages, limping, but going towards her duty. She is the personification of grim determination, calm and cold, this girl literally turned the idea of the female character of that time upside down. Well, perhaps this explains why she is still so reverently loved. The most popular female anime characters still can't compete with Rei.
Eko
Who is she? A sexy (she's wearing just a black-and-flame swimsuit and short black shorts - the extra clothes are getting in her way) sniper who from the very beginning supports the main characters of the series - Simon and Kamina - in their unyielding quest to protect humanity. Since Gurren Lagann has a very confusing setting, we won't go into detail about who they're protecting it from.
Abilities: Armed with a rifle that can fire both regular bullets and arrows.
Details: Throughout the series, Yoko acts as the voice of reason for the other characters. She does not like violence, but if her friends are in danger, she is ready to chop her enemies into cabbage. After the war she becomes a school teacher (and we envy her students).
Watch: Gurren Lagann (2007)
Tsubasa Hanekawa
Who is she? Possessed by bakeneko, a werecat spirit from Japanese folklore, is schoolgirl Tsubasa Hanekawa.
Abilities: When a girl takes on the form of a bakeneko, her hair turns white and cat ears and a tail appear. Movements become inhumanly dexterous, and speech is replete with “bawls.” It's better not to know what happens when she uses her claws!
Details: Over time, Tsubasa manages to overcome her cat spirits, and her hair remains half white forever.
Watch: Monster Stories (2009)–2013)
Anastasia ("The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls")
Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls was originally a card game for mobile devices. The goal of the game is to turn the heroines into real pop idols, completing all sorts of tasks and gracefully bypassing their competitors. Then a series was launched based on the game, and Anastasia is one of its main characters. She is only half Russian, often inserts Russian words into her speech, and lived most of her childhood in Russia. She often turns her gaze to the stars, is pretty and very purposeful. But, of course, the path of a Russian model to world fame, just like a pop star, is extremely thorny. Anastasia in the anime "Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls"
