Story
The Code of Bushido Warriors is a system of values, rules, etiquette, general ideas, and recommendations for behavior. It concerns interaction in society, being alone with your thoughts. The Code of the Japanese Samurai regulates the actions, thoughts, ideas, philosophical ideas, and morality of warriors. The set of rules is determined by historically established ideas about what is beautiful and right, and is based on the traditional values of the inhabitants of the eastern archipelago. As military principles, the code was formed in the 12-13th century. Its relevance is due to the fact that, along with the rules of combat, the code includes ethical values and instills in followers the idea of beauty and respect for art. The path of the warrior (this is how the word “bushido” is translated) reflects the essence of the samurai community as a social noble stratum.
Samurai are noble warriors
The Samurai Code emerged as a logical aspect of life under the shogunate, based on norms that existed in society long before this period. The sources of ideas reflected in the set of norms are Buddhism, Shintoism, the works of Mencius, Confucius. Key aspects are taken from Shinto, which harmoniously united ideas about the supernatural, love of nature and others, faith in the soul, and patriotism. Yamamoto Tsunetomo, who compiled the key book of the bushi path, took from Shinto the ideas of loyalty and love for one’s native country.
During the reign of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the “Code of Samurai Clan” was written, regulating in detail the behavior at home and in the service. The tenets of the bushi path are expanded by a description of the life of Takeda Shingen and the "Elementary Fundamentals of the Martial Arts." The Hagakure, the most important for the warrior's path, compiled by Yamamoto, appeared in 1716. The collection consisted of 11 books and became a kind of shrine for the military class.

The secret of the battle fan
The prototype of this type of weapon is considered to be huge ceremonial fans made of silk, attached to five-foot poles and spectacularly rotating in the wind. They were carried onto the battlefield along with the shogun's banners.
That is why historians consider the folding hand fan to be a product of Japanese creative thought.

There is a legend about a master from the village of Tamba near Kyoto, who in the 670s invented this thing by studying the wings of a bat that fell at his feet.
The design made it possible to carry the fan discreetly in your sleeve - it was convenient. Over time, the elegant accessory transformed into a deadly metal weapon.
The art of fighting with fans is tessenjutsu. The battle fan had countless uses - a samurai could fence with it and deflect knives and poisoned darts like a shield.
One interesting historical episode speaks about the versatility of such weapons.
The fan of the samurai Araki Murashige saved the life of its owner when the warlord Oda Nobunaga tried to kill him. The attacker was going to cut off the samurai's head at lightning speed with the sliding door panels (fushima) that separated the hallway from the reception hall when he made the ritual bow of greeting across the threshold. However, the warrior placed his tessen fan in one of the grooves on the floor along which the doors moved. Thus he stopped them.
Basic principles of Bushido
The rules of bushido regulate the everyday life of a samurai: philosophy, way of thinking, actions in his personal life, features of serving his master. The samurai institution played a particularly important role during the reign of the Tokugawa - in the years 1600-1868. The noble social stratum strived for knowledge and achievements; in the 17th century, philosophical reflection and moral improvement were in vogue. The 19th century and technological progress made the samurai the forefront of the development of industry, politics, and journalism. The society formed by the rules of the bushi is filled with national ambition and the desire to see its country as the best on the planet.
The norms and provisions of Bushido are clearly regulated, recorded, and deciphered in the Hagakure. The behavior of every samurai is subject to the ideas of honor, devotion, fidelity, and self-improvement. A true samurai is not afraid of death and is ready to enter into battle at any moment, sacrifice his life in the name of his master, and die with a smile, no matter how terrible the torment may be. At the same time, he despises those who want to survive at any cost, neglecting to achieve their goals for the sake of this.
Hagakure Explains the Essence of Bushido
Another norm of samurai thinking established by the warrior is valor. This trait is considered essential for a warrior; its highest manifestation is impeccable service to the ruler. Unquestioning devotion is the basis of other virtues. This idea has been around in Japanese society for centuries. Although the path of the bushi is not as relevant now as it was centuries ago, devotion remains the main idea of building society on the archipelago.
Honor, from the standpoint of the set of samurai rules, is something mandatory, fundamentally important, and extremely significant. Life is valued less than honor. In the past, a samurai's word meant more than any oath on paper; In contrast, the samurai did not swear, considering such an act to be detrimental to honor and humiliation. An interesting point: there is no word for “lie” in Japanese. The word translated into Russian as “lie” means the denial of a fact, the truth. Honor, in the understanding of the samurai code, is not inherent in a person from the beginning, but appears in him with education, self-improvement, and the development of appropriate characteristics. Each warrior who follows his path must harden himself physically and spiritually, hiding his experiences and cutting down on his needs. At the same time, he must always look decent in public, since he represents the master.
The rules of samurai life are written down in Hagakure.
Honor and duty are characteristics of a warrior that force him to behave courageously and nobly. The roots of these moral principles are in Confucianism. Confucius believed that a person who understands the need to perform an act out of duty, but neglects it, lacks courage.
The pursuit of self-knowledge cultivated through the bushi path is based on Shinto ideas. The morality of the ancient Japanese religion is self-knowledge, deep reflection, a sense of God within oneself. Shinto requires obedience to the inner deity, whose voice is the parental call and the wisdom of past generations. Shintoism is a source of confidence in the state as a means of protecting and protecting everyone. The canons of Shinto call for honoring the ruler who gives order and peace to the lands. Bushido, like Shinto, requires reverence and submission to parents, ancestors of the highest tribes, and the ruler.
Finally, an important aspect of Bushido is caring for the body, selflessness and the ability to renounce one’s own Self. He who destroys one’s Self is a superior person. For a warrior, duty is not one’s own salvation; in bushido there is no place for egoism, selfishness, or the desire to receive a reward. A true follower of the teaching is a person whose mind, feelings and heart are in unity and subordinated to conscience.

The Secret of the Perfect Sword
Forging blades, a long and very complex process, was surrounded by secret rituals. And, as was customary among Japanese artisans, all technical details were passed on from father to son.
Each blacksmith had his own way of mixing steel grades, testing raw materials, etc. Professional secrets were passed on exclusively to children, both relatives and adopted ones.
The heirs, in turn, had to solemnly swear that they would never reveal family secrets to outsiders.
There is a story about how one day the gunsmith Masamune, who was selling a blade in the presence of another blacksmith, saw him secretly stick his hand into a vat of water to cool the steel, wanting to calculate its temperature... The enraged master cut off his hand.
It was believed that the character and personal qualities of a blacksmith, sometimes quite extraordinary, were magically embodied in the blades he forged.
Sometimes the warrior could not be seen behind the shine of the metal, so quickly he swung his sword
In this regard, the swords of Senzo Muramasa, who was born in 1341 in the village of Senji and was a student of the great Masamune, are mentioned. This difficult man “was an excellent blacksmith, but had a hot temper (bordering on madness), which was believed to be transmitted to his blades”...
Many believed that weapons constantly thirsted for blood and pushed their owners to murder or suicide.

The secret of the deadly chain
A special type of weapon, famous for its effectiveness in neutralizing a formidable sword at close range.
The chain (kusari) made of steel appeared along with the first Japanese armor. One of the variants of this weapon was a bamboo staff, from the flat end of which a kusari jumped out to disorient or confuse the enemy.
The chain was often used as the main military weapon.
According to legend, the special method was invented by the feudal-era swordsman Masaki Toshimitsu Dannoshin, who added two weights (one at each end) to a two-foot chain and came up with a series of ingenious techniques to disarm the enemy.
He called his weapon manrikigusari (manriki - “strength of ten thousand”, husari - “chain”).
